What is an Advisory Letter?
Medical Boards issue letters of concern or “advisory letters” when doctors or physician assistants commit any number of infractions that they deem not worthy of a formal disciplinary action, but pose concerns regarding their behavior. While this may sound like only minor mistakes, many are far more serious. Advisory letters do not appear on the practicianer’s page on the AZ Medical Board website and in fact, even major liscence actions disappear from their website after only 5 years. Much more serious oversight is needed. Understanding how to navigate the system that creates this situation is the first step to protecting your own saftey…that is not the primary focus of the Arizona Medical Board.

Questions and Answers
Q: Why sould I care about non-disciplinary actions?
A: Many non-disciplinary actions contain serious errors or behavioral concerns most medical service consumers would find significant.
Q: Why do you refer to patients as clients/consumers the majority of the time?
A: Client/consumer is a safer relationship between a service provider and a somone receiving medical services. Patient refers to a vulnerable person in a state of suffering. Even today, patients are expected to remain passive, wait for and accect treatemnt without any serious inquiry. Advocating for competant service is the goal of a client or consumer of any service or product.
